American Abstract Expressionism: Clyfford Still

1957

Finally (it took me half a year to get started!) I have managed to make some crucial updates on my website. I created a new page which I named "Paintings" and uploaded some pictures of my recent paintings. So now you can see what I am up to ;)

To celebrate this event I put some real good stuff on my blog, something, I discovered a few weeks ago during my art history class. Our teacher was talking about the American abstract expressionism, a post - World War II art movement (also known as "The New York School") including important artists such as Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko etc. He showed us several pictures as to introduce us to the styles, colours and consepts of these painters, including stunning artwork by Clyfford Still.

And Clyfford Still's paintings just blew my mind out. They were amazing! I immediately fell in love with the strong contrasts, the colours, the rough forms - just everything. They somehow reminded me of South African and aboriginal American beadwork, so I added a few examples of the latter ones to the photographs (below). Enjoy it :)
